Lovely week in Savannah Ga! What an amazing city and the experience so enhanced by our stay in the charming old McDonough house in the historic district. The kitchen while maintaining its old charm is equipped in totally new modern appliances.

We narrowed our choice to this site based in part on the prompt phone and e-mail hospitality extended during our search by our gracious host Sheila.

When staying in a city like Savannah the experience simply would not be complete without staying in a charming old historic home.

We were able to walk to many of the historic churches and other sites. Transportation is readily available also. We enjoyed our very informative Trolley tour. Younger couples could probably walk everywhere from McDonough, especially in cooler months. We drove to Tybee Island one morning.

As Seniors with cranky hips and knees we had difficulty (but managed)accessing the whirlpool/shower tub combination, so this should be a consideration in your decision if you have any limitations. Otherwise, we do recommend and our rating is 4 1/2 stars due only to our difficulty with the shower accommodations.

Note: The advertisement mentioned Washer and dryer in the downstairs unit so we were surprised to find note "for housekeeping only'. attached to the laundry appliances. Savannah was the second part of our trip so we had planned to use if needed.

The McDonough home will be a significant part of a wonderful, memorable stay in a truly beautiful city.

By the way we ate wonderful food everywhere but don't miss the Pirate House.

Our thanks and maybe we will see you again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Helen, you are a gracious guest! Sorry for the note, the dryer was closed for parts ordering! Will be running for your next visit. The staff placed that message rather than out of order....you would be surprised how many husbands would try to repair.

Perfect Place!

We recently spent a week at this rental in downtown Savannah and found the location to be exactly what we wanted... Any cab ride was less than $10 from the home and the upstairs balcony was the perfect place to relax before or after a night on the town. Shelia was extremely accommodating and the extra perk of a Jacuzzi tub was great after golf or shopping . The kitchen was beautifully appointed and the high ceilings made the apartment feel much larger as did the airy layout. I guarantee after time spent at the McDonough house... You'll want to stay longer. Thanks Shelia for opening your beautiful rental home to us!

Hi Shelia, Sorry this took so long.  I just wanted to let you know how much my sister, niece and I loved both McDonough House and the cottage.  We had a wonderful time in Savannah and at Tybee Island -- the cottage is just gorgeous.
Thank you!

My girlfriends and I stayed in the bottom unit a couple of weeks ago for a long weekend and could not have had a better trip! The house is close to everything, we walked everywhere we went, and it was the perfect size. For 4 girls how definitely know how to overpack there was plenty of room for us and all of our stuff! Never having to worry about parking was another plus. When we make another trip to Savannah we will definitely be contacting Shelia again!
Thanks again for letting us stay in your home!

I have been so busy since we got home from Savannah, but I wanted to touch base with you and let you know how much we enjoyed your home.  It was so nice to have such a roomy place to come back to during the day to relax before going back out in the evening for dinner, etc.  If, or I should say when, we come back we will be sure to contact you!  I have already told friends to let me know before they make hotel reservations in Savannah to consider checking availability with you for the house.
Thank you again!

This is our second time staying here while in Savannah-----I would recommend it to anyone. Very comfortable and close to the center of town. The owner is an awesome lady and I was glad we were able to meet her in person this time around!

Stayed in McDonough House when we brought our son to school at SCAD. Perfect location, within walking distance of entire Historic District and River Street and Kroger's grocery store is just a short drive away. Wonderful amenities like full size kitchen and Jacuzzi tub! Off street parking was so convenient and the neighborhood is quiet. Allows dogs and our dog Jackson loved it there and was very comfortable. The duplex is nicely decorated and we felt very at home during our son's transition. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you Sheila!!!

Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home.

Owners Response: Thank you so much for your kind words and for appreciating our Home as we do.....we recommend our rental as a "home away from home" and we obviously succeeded! Please come again soon....Shelia

We could only stay one night, but it was so very comfortable. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner as we pulled up he was finishing the maintenance and he let us in. He was the warmest, friendliest person. The home offered everything we needed, plus more. I would ,and will ,recommend this home to my friends and family. I never realized how beautiful Savannah was. Thank you for the experience.

The description is true to the McDonough House - spacious 1 bedroom, 1 bath with lounging space, a great kitchen and all the interesting bits of an older restored home. It was very clean and well maintained. Sheila, the owner was so very helpful, friendly and pleasant to work with. She has a great book of tips and tours and restaurants, with some marked as her favorites.

I stayed with 4 good friends on the first floor, and we had enough space for us, our stuff and 'hanging out'. I would highly recommend the McDonough House to anyone looking for a convenient, comfortable, well priced place to stay. We easily walked to the sights downtown and driving to/from was simple, and parked the car right outside our door.

Savannah is a walking city. The architecture is amazing, the people were friendly and the food was delicious! The beaches at Tybee Island were beautiful too. Make a plan today to get there and enjoy yourselves.

My adult daughter and I stayed in the lower level apartment at this property for four nights in March 2008. It's in a great location on the east side of the city & within walking distance to all the tourist sites in downtown Savannah. It was clean & comfortable. The owner promptly responded to inquiries and was courteous and helpful. We highly recommend it.

A great location in a safe place in the Historic District. We were able to walk to Bay Street, the River Walk, City Market, Forsyth Park, and Colonial Cemetery (right around the corner). And, there was *free* parking right in front of the condo (rare in the historic district). A 10 minute drive to Bonaventure and a 15 min. drive out to Tybee Island.

The condo itself is clean and nicely renovated. It also has some informative guides of things to do around town.

The owner was wonderful to work with and will stay here again!
